I find it funny how states making their own abortion laws gets characterized as a “backlash to Dobbs,” seeing as the ruling in Dobbs…supported states making their own abortion laws.
I clicked on the “Jewish Question” link and immediately developed a tension headache. It’s time to get rid of these ethnic studies people in total. The utter lies and blatant Antisemitism is disgusting and it is just time to fight back.

But even so...shouldn't putting money into the opposing party's primaries to support extreme candidates - then turning around in the general and saying those candidates are literally a threat to the continuance of our very system of government - be beyond the 'what a shrewd political move!' pale?

I understand how the elections went the way they did. Many people see Trump and his ilk as the crocodile that is closest to the boat. You always kill the crocodile closest to the boat first. But I also think there is a much bigger crocodile (the Left) that this country has to face as well. It’s slower moving but bigger.
I hope Trump fades into the oblivion. But what his presidency showed me is how awful the Left is too. I like the Left as much as I like Trump. I actually fear Trump running again because of him and also in equal measure because of the way the Left reacts when they don’t get their way.
Since today is Veterans’ Day, I would like to honor my late son-in-law, George. Born to a family of Russian Mongolian immigrants, he was a fiercely patriotic first-generation American and an accomplished Marine. He died from a criminal assault the day after Thanksgiving, 10 years ago. George was an inspiration to me, having a unique ability to distill the Truly Important from the tsunami of trivial noise around us. He was kind, incredibly hard-working, and a blessed son-by-marriage. I miss him every day.
I fear the common theme now being pushed post-election that this could be the end of Trump is the same wishful thinking that said Trump had no chance at the Republican nomination and no chance against Clinton; it's the media echo chamber and nothing more. Trump still has his cult, and I think will have the nomination again if he wants it. DeSantis is the first politician in my 17 years of voting eligibility I would actually be excited to vote for, and instead I think it will be Trump vs Biden 2.
Have you seen Apocalypto? The ending - spoiler - is something I think about often these days. The protaganist just ran for his life from the evil modern"civilization" that saw people as pawns to be sacrificed, only to see a what must have been to him the totally baffling sight of European explorers rowing to shore from their ships. He turns away from them too, and walks into the jungle, where he will only worry for himself and his family.
If Trump gets the nomination, I'll just walk into the jungle.
With regard to Dobbs. It seems to me, biology still applying, there are a number of steps required to have an unwanted pregnancy. It starts with intercourse, and then ... The options for contraception today are more vast than when Roe was decided. They have been largely proven safe and 99+% effective. There are pregnancy tests readily available and largely accurate. They can be used in privacy. Abortion is still available in every state in the nation.
With this written, explain to me how a woman feels "safer" with a candidate that is "pro-abortion" and soft on crime? Women are being assaulted, raped and murdered across the US. Think of the woman pushing her baby in a stroller being rundown in Los Angeles, the woman on the NYC subway at JFK or the woman gunned down in Buffalo in front of her kids. So yes, vote for the woman (or man) candidate that supports your right to an abortion you will likely never have, over the woman (or man) candidate who cares about if you, your family or friends, can safely walk the streets of your hometown. Logical? I think not.

I agree. But, this doesn’t work without serious reforms in mental health care. If you legalize ALL drugs, be prepared for the ramifications, and we’re not. Look at the state we’re in now? Homelessness isn’t a majority of people who just need some time to get back on track - they’re substance abusers and/or (as a result) mentally unwell. The dumbest thing we do as voters is miss the second and third order effects of the fell good policies we Tweet.

As I noted elsewhere, if they'd concoct the Steele Dossier, lie to America for four years about it, and get the FBI to join them in the deception, what wouldn't the Democrats do? There's so much money and power at play, including some darker motives, that we can expect Democrats to ratchet up the cheating, the chicanery and the criminality. The Republican Party needs to get smarter. But if the ones I've met in party circles are any indication, this won't happen soon. Especially when we give the Democrats issues such as abortion, when a compromise such as exists in the EU is such an easy fix and would allow us to paint the Dems as true baby killers for their late term abortion stance.
(One quibble, Nellie - Dobbs didn't repeal the right to an abortion. Legislatures pass and repeal laws. The courts simply rule on their Constitutionality. What Dobbs did was return to the states the right to legislate on abortion.)
