I am getting tired of sending every “Common Sense” item to my “group” and told them to subscribe to it themselves. I told them it is the consistently best stuff out there bar none; it is like the comment section of the WSJ. I always seem to hear a talent first here and then they show up all over the place. You two are like the fullback breaking the line Andi others pour through the hole. I raised my support recently to top level. NYT screw up is turning out to be great for the country. Keep it up

One rather interesting story left unmentioned: the case of the FBI raiding James O'Keefe's home, taking his phone and leaking its contents to the New York Times.

That revisionist take on President Truman’s decision to use the atomic bomb has been around for quite awhile. Supposedly the Japanese government was ready to surrender but the Americans nuked them anyway—one claim being that it was done to intimidate Stalin & Co.

This, of course, is not true. While there was a faction within the Japanese government that was delirious of ending the war, the leaders of the Japanese Army were determined on one last decisive battle on Japanese soil. They were well aware that the Allies were building up for an invasion of the Home Islands and planned a defense that would inflict such massive casualties on the invaders as to force them to offer lenient peace terms. This plan, christened the Ketsu-Go Operation, was in in an advanced page of planning at the time of the atomic bomb strikes.

On the American side, estimates of likely Allied casualties during Downfall, as the invasion operation was code-named, made for sobering reading. The high-end estimate was a million total casualties, with upwards of two hundred thousand dead. The results of the recently concluded Battle of Okinawa only added to these worries. This was the background to Truman’s decision.

Another factor that the revisionists ignore is the likely impact of alternatives to the atomic bomb: invasion, continued conventional bombing, blockade. Without doubt, any of these would have killed far more Japanese civilians than the two atomic bombs that were dropped. For instance, the Ketsu-Go plan called for a national mobilization of civilians as a militia to fight the invaders—armed with such obsolete rifle as could be scraped up, bamboo spears, Molotov cocktails, etc. Against the Allies forces with their superior firepower, such a militia would have suffered astronomical casualties.

We can be confident, I think that the current crop of revisionists have no comprehension of these facts.

Seattle is offering public servants a special safety program. Workers gather at specific times (4:40 PM, 5:05 PM, etc), and dedicated security escorts

——————————————————

This is probably the most infuriating thing I have read in a while. Literally 100% of the people described as ‘public servants’ in Seattle vote Democrat every single time. Giving them special protection is sort of the grossest thing I can imagine.

These people are the ones who deserve to be assaulted and robbed the most for what they have mindlessly done to our society as a means of servicing their emotions.

Even the dumbest people in society can change when faced with the consequences of their decisions. If we protect a gigantic Democrat voting block like government workers from the consequences of their actions that makes it even less likely that we will ever escape this in tact as a country.

You must remember that the nadir of happiness is the mid 40’s from there it goes up. We boomers have grown children, secure finances, and can look back(mostly) on successful careers. Therefore happy.

It’s always interesting when people are shocked by the results of the obviously deluded policies they advocate. Defund the police. Spend trillions with no increase in debt. Open the borders. ETC. ETC. ETC.

If Rittenhouse is acquitted on the most serious charges and BLM/Antifa decide to riot - MSM along with certain politicians should be held accountable for undermining democracy and fanning the flames of riots.

I am no fan of Donald Trump but as each fake conspiracy pushed by msm is proven to be wrong, his comment that the “MSM as the enemy of the people” begins to resonate

Great read and write up on the Rittenhouse case. The media built up so many lies over the past year to push their religious agenda, they created 10’s of millions of flat earthers unwilling to even consider real evidence.

Here's what Jesse Singal wrote:

"We seem headed toward a point where every major news story generates at least two distinct versions of reality that are summarily adopted as true by many partisans."

Tell us, Jesse, when the media generate two distinct versions of reality, which one ALMOST ALWAYS is the wrong version? Hmmmm? It's the LEFT'S. This Rittenhouse case is a perfect example of the Right's version being the right version. And it follows a near-linear trend.

Charlottesville, Russian hookers peeing, Russia's collusion in the 2016 election, Romney's tax returns, Romney's binders of women, mostly peaceful riots and arson, Biden didn't say "negro", ad nauseam.

The Left's version of virtually EVERYTHING is, and has been, a lie, for years. Deliberately so. Because the alphabet legacy media in America are not journalists. They're propagandists. They're the propaganda arm of the Democrat Party.

How could you, Jesse, not grasp this undeniable truth by now??

We're so bad at show trials. It's laughable. Our pesky laws of evidence keep getting in the way. Perhaps we need community courts and community detention and public hangings to make this work. We have a lot to learn from the CCP and even the NKVD.

I’m still trying to work out the rules of play here. When you abolish the police I guess the community members get to act out their own idea of justice. The rioters are simply acting out their X-Studies Professor’s revolution fantasies. But the professor forgot to tell them about the possibility and about the inevitability of community resistance. Counter revolution is real. Real guns will kill you. If you enrage the people you are claiming to help with your revolution they will strike back. Violence begets violence. This is why we never get the promised omelette from the revolution's cracked egg. The media and the revolutionaries and the academics and the Facebookers were and still are shocked that someone would fight back. How dare someone object to their just destruction of civil society through violent revolution. They then petition their allies in government to shield them from all consequences with these little understood things called laws and executive actions along with a lot of executive inaction. They wail on Facebook that judges and juries stand in the way of justice as their professor explained it. Their solution and threat is more of the same if they don’t get the verdict they want. It all makes sense if you can get into the mind of the petulant perpetually aggrieved. The problem is how do you restore civil society after the revolution without opening the gulags and disappearing all the comrades who disagree with you. I don’t think they thought this through. They never think it through. They must have skipped class that day. Perhaps their professor never covered the triviality called consequences, preferring to let it evolve organically. The guillotine and the gulag can’t happen with us in charge, they think. Can it?

Most small business folks have most of their meager wealth tied up in their shop. Most of them didn't have insurance against riots. Their landlords probably didn’t have insurance either. They lost everything. Many of these areas will become uninhabitable moonscapes.

The riots of the sixties wiped out small businesses, and the apartments above, in my inner city neighborhood. The stores stayed closed for years. We had to take a bus to buy bread and get prescriptions filled. No one wants to invest in a place that could go up in flames at any time.

In those days, venturing out to school or work was dangerous and stressful beyond belief although I didn’t know those words then. I just remember constant extreme fear. I ran to and from school. But they were many. They were bigger. They were faster. The wolves could not be appeased. They would chase you down and beat you unmercifully and take or destroy your few valuables. Begging and pleading just made the beatings worse. I can only guess what I would have done had I owned a gun back then. Think about this the next time you read about the 50% plus dropout rate in inner city schools. I love the rain, to this day, because the wolves didn’t maraud in the rain for some reason. I could walk in peace. I sleep best with the sound of rain on my roof even now. I often wake up in a sweat, all these years later, reliving those times. I remember listening to Bob Dylan, one day on the only working radio in our house, sing “When you ain't got nothing, you got nothing to lose”. That was made painfully real for me multiple times in my childhood in the aftermath of the previous revolution.

P.s. Please say a prayer for the kids just trying to get to and from school.

Of course it's patently obvious to anyone with a firing neuron that Rittenhouse was defending himself from deadly harm and that this prosecution is 100% political and should never have been brought. But that's what happens when we have a lying national media that is a parody of Newspeak and a walking coprolite as president who is so deluded and deceitful that he makes the lying media look like John Peter Zenger by comparison.

Most commenters seem to believe that Kyle Rittenhouse will be acquitted because of, well, the evidence admitted at trial. But I am fearful that not all jurors will have the courage to cast a vote based on the evidence. That will take courage, given that the mob and Leftist political machine demand a different outcome. It looks like the prosecutor took the politically savvy, cowardly route when he decided to charge Rittenhouse with murder--let some lowly common folk on the jury take the heat if the prosecution fails. Is Kenosha law enforcement (the same people who failed to stop the rioters in August 2020) going to protect the jurors if the mob goes after them? Fortunately, the judge appears to be experienced and courageous. Once again, we're dealing with the question of courage or lack of courage.

If Kyle gets convicted by that jury, it will literally be the end of our justice system. Who having seen parts if the trial with their own eyes would ever trust it again to be fair and honest Anyone following it knows the media hype is completely false. The press is in essence lauding the thugs and criminals who attacked him. One of them was a convicted child rapist. Nice eh?

If Hannah Jones hates America so much, why doesn’t she leave? There are many black majority countries around the world in which she’d no doubt feel more comfortable. Or maybe they wouldn’t give her the grievance platform she obviously so desires.

Spot on:

“But what does abolishing the police look like in practice? What happens when the police really do stand down and let fires burn as they did last summer? It looks a lot like Kyle Rittenhouse. It looks like a teenager seeing chaos and getting pretty convinced that stopping it falls on his shoulders.”

Civil rights progress vs racism
