Now there's some cognitive dissonance on display. If coercion is on the table, then the other interventions are meaningless. And for "forced medical treatment will make you more free", that's some Stalin-worthy double-speak.
Glenn Greenwald has the appropriate take on the situation. Covid's severity does not rise to the level of necessity to violate rights. In Texas we have virtually no Covid protocols in place and have not had them in some time. It makes no difference either way in the numbers of people in the hospital.
I'm fit, 39, female, and healthy. I face a similar risk from Covid injury and Covid vaccine injury - if the Ottawa study is as accurate as it appears to be, then I actually face a much higher risk from the vaccine than Covid.
I am not getting vaccinated. There are all sorts of personal reasons for this from a health perspective - something my doctor fully agrees with. However, at this point even if my doctor and I could be convinced the risks were worth it to me personally to get vaccinated, I am not getting vaccinated because I am allergic to old men trying to coerce me to put something in my body I don't want to want to by claiming "its good for me." The risk I face personally from Covid is tiny in comparison to the risk we all face from authoritarianism.
The Australia piece is instructive. People who support vaccine mandates tend to see draconian lockdown measures as the inevitable consequence of covid cases, as unavoidable as night following day. In reality, these measures are active choices made by individuals in government. There is nothing inevitable about them.
I believe only two out of the commenters referenced people who have Covid have better immunity than those vaccinated by a dose that doesn’t last. This group of people is overlooked in the quest to make everyone conform. And that’s really shameful on the part of the medical community. It’s what we expect from craven power hungry politicians but not from doctors.
If the vaccine is so essential, why is Congress and staff exempt from the mandate?
If mask mandate compliance is anything to go by, hoi polloi will be punished for not having their passports, but the swells will not even be checked. And the usual suspects -progressivists- are seizing this opportunity not only to display their familiar hypocrisy, but as yet another chance to seize an illusory moral high ground.

My favorite thing from the last two years, aside from the time Joy Reid argued that casual knife fighting is part of urban culture, has been the VAERS database.
People are quick to mention that VAERS is self-reporting and thus not useful. Okay that’s a great point, except that isn’t an argument for the safety of the COVID vaccine. It is a argument that our system for tracking vaccine safety has been absolutely buffoonish for decades and we actually don’t know anything about any of the vaccines and nobody noticed this until effing Mike Cernovich posted it on his meme account.

Biden should issue a safe driving mandate that prohibits driving over 25 mph unless people are driving an emergency vehicle to an emergency. That may save even more life years and reduce more suffering than the covid vaccine mandate.

As for me: it is terrifically disappointing that so many people in this country have been so easily manipulated into letting their outsized fear override their common sense. If you asked anyone two years ago if the president should be able to ruin their lives if they decline to inject themselves with something they'd rather not.... I mean, come on. I have a feeling what kind of "Constitutional Law" lawyer and professor that Adrian Vermeule is: The kind where nothing actually written in the Constitution matters, only his personal feelings matter.

That renders all the other conversations irrelevant, since they all start with the presumption that everyone being forced to get a vaccine is in the best interest of public health.
As I learned many years ago from Professor Sowell in "The Conflict of Visions," the left will seek to increase its power by invoking crises and then proposing solutions that always lead to more government and when they fail to solve the crisis always fall back on their good intentions.
